HURRICANE: GROWN WOMAN BLUES
JJ THAMES' FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN TEN YEARS
Hey y’all. JJ here.
This is my first studio album in ten years.
Not because I stopped singing.
I’ve been out here — fifty-six countries deep — living, touring, loving, learning.
Carrying the blues everywhere my feet would take me.
But this one feels different.
It’s not a comeback.
I’ve been working.
It’s not a reinvention.
It’s what happens when a grown woman takes her time.
Time to sit with it.
Time to turn it over.
Time to chew on it long enough to know exactly what she wants to say — and how she wants to say it.
HURRICANE is grown.
It’s rhythm in the bones.
It’s honesty without noise.
It’s blues at the center, with everything I’ve lived wrapped around it.
And I’m making it independently. Slow. Intentional. The right way.
If you’re here right now, you’re early.
And I don’t take that lightly.
Hurricanes coming to town baby, come get you some! This is going to be a wild ride!

HURRICANE: GROWN WOMAN BLUES
WhAT THIS RECORD IS
Some albums are made to chase something.
This one came from permission.
Permission to stop asking whether a sound “fits.”
Permission to trust my ear.
Permission to let Brazilian rhythm sit right next to blues and feel completely at home.
I didn’t leave the blues.
Blues raised me.
I just let the music stretch.
Let it breathe.
Let it move where it needed to go.
HURRICANE is what happens when experience, travel, and self-trust finally sit down at the same table — and nobody has to explain themselves.
HURRICANE lives at the intersection of roots and rhythm.
Voice-forward.
Rhythm in the bones.
Honest.
Blues and soul at the center — with reggae, R&B, rock, and neo-soul woven through it. Brazilian percussion under the floorboards.
Some songs move your hips.
Some smolder.
Some sit still and tell the truth — straight up, no chaser.
Some forgive.
Some are soft and vulnerable.
Some draw a line.
The thread isn’t genre.
It’s voice.
It’s feeling.
It’s a grown woman perspective — unapologetic and clear.
WHO I AM (IN CASE YOU'RE NEW HERE)
I’m JJ Thames.
Classically trained.
Jazz trained.
Raised in blues and soul.
I’ve spent decades on stages learning how to tell the truth with my voice.
This record doesn’t feel like reinvention.
It feels like arrival.
Not in a fame way.
In a truth way.
